Although this is still very much at the planning stage, I hope to be able to have it ready for distribution (possibly through APDL) by September 1998.

The aim of the Welcome to the Ancient World CD-ROM is, quite simply, like the Earth in Space CD-ROM, to be the best of its kind for Acorn computers. This, however, may well be the best of its kind on any platform. That includes PCs. A few of its features are listed below.

All the major (and many minor) Classical texts. Epic poetery (Iliad, Odessy,
Aeneid etc.), Histories (Herodotus, Xenophon, Livy, Aulus Gellius, Tacitus,
Caeser etc.), Philosophy (Plato etc.), Comedy (Aristophanes etc.), Tragedy
(Euripides, Sophocles, Aesculus etc.), Letters (Pliny, Seneca etc.), Satire
(Juvenal etc.), Poetery (Martial, Catullus etc.) and all the other unclassifiable texts
such as Aesop's Fables, Martial's epigrams and Cicero's The Nature of the Gods.
In fact, anything and everything Classical. This may run to over 100Mb.

Comprehensive notes about every major Greek and Roman site. These will
almost invariably include at least one full colour scanned image for each site,
and often many many more. I can't see those taking up very much below 200Mb, what with all the images, of which there may be well over 1000.

A comprehensive who's who of all the main people (real and mythological) of
the Ancient World.

Notes on the art, architecture, theatre and all things cultural in the Greek and
Roman worlds. These will also include a wealth of images.

A detailed history of the Greek and Roman worlds, from the dawn of the
Bronze Age in Greece to the death of Justinian, last of the Caesers.

The whole will probably be structured around a monumental hypertext system, which will allow the massive cross-referencing of people, places, events and images that a production of this sort demands.
