I have, for a long time, been trying to understand why people seem to deliberately try to make things more difficult for themselves - by buying Microsoft software, for instance, and so fouling up their language with slang that it is becoming well-nigh impossible for one person to be sure of being able to communicate clearly with another. After much thought, I think that I have found the answer. As technology continues to develop, people are expected to do things in shorter and shorter times, actually putting more pressure on them, and making their lives harder than without the so-called innovations. Bill Gates must have recogognsed this at an early stage, and acted accordingly, single-handedly retarding the pace of software and hardware development to such an extent that efficiency, productivity, and expectations of the end user have remained virtually stagnant ever since DOS was brought out in the mid eighties.
