Letters QFN-21
==============================================================

Dear David,
Thanks for QFN 20. It was nice to read other peoples
opinions of 'Made In Heaven'. The first major feedback
really, as the official magazine only gave brief scentences
from fans.

It was good to read other fans thought / interpretations of
Track 13 - my favourite was something like "It's like nobody
wanted to play the last note..." Touching. But to me it
"just annoys" with no tune, but worse than the lack of
chords is the way it relaxes the listener with soothing
sustained notes only to strike in with a loud soundbite
physically making me jump - so not particular relaxing. An
interesting idea - that for me doesn't quite work, though it
seems I'm in the minority.

I'm sure the Internet Queen groups were full of opinons and
analysis (ad infinitum knowing such groups).

Did Queen keep the fact that some songs on 'Made In Heaven'
were re-recorded old ones? In no review that I read, did it
mention this, and I'm sure many papers/magazines would
reveal in this sort of thing. I presume the publicity
skirted around this issue.

The information on the ambient speaker set-up in QFN 20 was
fascinating, as I'm a bit of an electronics junkie and had
heard nothing on the subject - I've yet to try it out.

In QFN 20 fans kept refering to Brian's version of 'Too Much
Love...' as the original. Is it? Though not recorded first,
it was released first.

I found Greg Brooks book fascinating after reading it cover
to cover, but it contained a few too many typographical
errors and inconsistences. Perhaps the most unforgivable is
on his write-up of the famed 1975 Christmas Eve gig with its
myriad of bootlegs - video and audio. His set list doesn't
always correspond with his text.

Could any QFN reader/anyone identify the venue/date of the
following photographs from the official 1996 official Queen
calendar: January, February, July, August and September. I
can only guess at 'the early 1970s'.

                      Max Fuller

Dear Max,
Thanks for you long and interesting letter. I've not had
many print-worthy letters over the past few months as
everyone seems to have digested the new album and has little
or nothing to say.

I agree with you about hearing what other fans have to say
about of 'Made In Heaven'. What I printed was cross-section
of what fans were saying as I had only so much room. Most
fans were happy on the whole, with only a few slagging it
off totally for having more old songs on it (albeit in a new
form) than previously unheard tracks. Ideally I'm sure
everyone wanted a full album of new material, but that
wasn't possible. I think Brian's idea of an EP with just the
new tracks on could have worked, but somehow never got
beyond the 'idea' stage.

I also agree with you about the 'louder' noises spoiling the
relaxing sections of Trcak 13. I've compiled a tape with all
the 'noises' cut out, so the result is a 45 minute relaxing
soundscape. I listen to it over and over again. I did have
my CD player in repaet mode for just that track for awhile
at first- until I had my CD player / HiFi stolen (amongst
many other things) recently in a burgulary, but that's
another story.

Let me know if you (or any reader) try the 'ambient' speaker
set-up, and tell me what you think. Brian Eno (ex Roxy
Music) is a pioneer of ambient sound.

About the 'Too Much Love...' song. Well, Brian did write it
(along with two non-Queen members) and released it first.
Although there are bootlegs circulating with an unfinished
Queen version of the song taped around the time of the
'Miracle' sessions. I think Brian's is the original.

I think your observation about Queen's press office keeping
quiet about the contents of 'Made In Heaven' is true. I
think the international press would have viewed the album in
a different light if they'd have known there were five
re-recorded song. They would have trashed it before
listening to it.

If anyone writes in regarding the calendar photographs, I'll
print the information at a later date.

Dear Dave,
Where can I get extra copies of the CD cases which have the
letter 'Q' with a crown inside, like the one that came with
'Made In Heaven'?

Dear Shaun,
I don't know. If anyone does know please write or phone QFN.
I'm sure many other fans would like to get extra copies for
there collection too.

of your letters to appear in the 'Letter To The Editor'
