The Plot Thickens
{fon:tri}

  Galliano have always tried to recreate their live performances on
their albums, and their third, "The Plot thickens", is probably their
best example of this. It is a very mellow album, and is very
socially aware, with such tracks as "Twyford Down". A more folk
style of music can be found on "Little One", but on other tracks,
lead singer rapper Rob Gallagher sounds like Stakka Bo, or even the
Stereo MCs. With the now permanent addition of vocalist Valerie
Ettiene, there are some very good summery blues tracks, such as the
excellent "Better all the time", and also on the cover version of
"Long Time Gone". The instrumentalists are, as ever, very
experienced, with Mark Vandergucht on guitars, and Crispin Taylor
(you like ma new hatta) on drums. There may be a couple of dodgy
tracks and criminal justice bill supporters would be better off
avoiding this one (so you bet that everyone in Sounds Riscy has this
album), but overall an excellent mix of acid jazz and blues.

7/10
