The Risc BBC?
{fon:tri}

  When my dad was working at Cambridge (poly) in 1981, he came
across a research student at the (proper) University's computer science
department using a BBC to design a circuit board. When asked what he
was doing, it turned out that he was designing a RISC chip for local
company Acorn, on a BBC model B! It was, quite sadly, connected to a
VAX supermini computer (the best number-cruncher at the time) on the
main Cambridge network hub, but that still didn't stop the aspiring
student from using a decent machine to design his chip; one that we
all use and treasure today, thirteen years on.
