           The Chapterhouse.

Welcome to another cheat column. We
have The Hacker (Doggysoft) to review
as well as various cheats, modules and
passwords to share. The first software
based hacking program I was aware of
was the Games Wizard but I suspect that
this has fallen by the wayside when
compared to The Hacker's price (5) and
extra features. You recieve a small
paper booklet describing many important
features of the package including the
best way to use them. You also receive
an unbranded light brown disk, similar
to the ArcFS 2 disk, which contains the
Hacker program, some external modules
to add to the Hacker's functionality,
loads of cheat modules already written,
a program to allow Axis to be hacked,
various doc files detailing future
improvements, a program to alter the
hourglass a bit, the wimp extension
module and documents, a competent virus
killer program and a document file full
of passwords to games. And bear in mind
that The Hacker is constantly being
updated, so newer versions may have
more. Not bad for 5 but it seems a
shame to provide modules for so many
games when half the fun is using the
system to find your own cheats. Maybe
they should have just provided modules
for the hardest to crack software, for
instance Drop Ship. (not featured) cos
I found cracking the time limit on this
impossible even with all the Hacker's
features. Using the Hacker is quite
easy unless trying to beat a time limit
or depleting oxygen when some hassle
and disk swapping are needed. I have
tested the Hacker on a number of games.
It worked fine on Bobby Blockhead but I
am not sure why the module failed to
work the next time I played the game.
It was succesful with games as diverse
as Tertis and Invaders (thank god) but
completely failed to activate during
Quark. Bearing in mind that Axis needed
a special program and Xenon2 crashed
after a screenshot, I think you may be
in trouble from newer games designed to
defeat the Hacker with smart electronic
counter-measures. Most older games will
hack, but there seems to be no point
due to the number of modules supplied
with the Hacker. I have almost twice as
many hints, cheats, maps and passwords
as supplied with Hacker but most people
will not, so at least you could argue
the 5 buys a lot of potential Hacman
columns. (rather killing that off, I'm
afraid.) Still, doom and gloom aside
this represents a good way of spending
your nice crisp fiver. You will find a
few modules I created experimenting
with the software supplied with this
issue of Thumper. (naturally) Anyway,
enough Hacking and on to some good old
fashioned passwords. By the way, I have
noticed that many old cheats in Arcade
and Out of the Darc for 4D games will
no longer function. This is because all
4D games, unless you are lucky, have
been modified to stop cheats working
and specifically because even old games
now use the key-disk system. Anyway,
first for Pipemania. Slowworm as a pass
word exactly as written will slow down
the flooze when space is pressed. Even
better, Bombards allows instant placing
of pieces with no time penalty. Pause
no longer hides the screen if Waitress
is entered. Talisman can be cheated by
pressing pause and whilst paused, put
one finger on 2 and the other on . Now
unpause and life everlasting is yours.
Final cheat- Press Alt-Alt even with
no Hacker loaded at certain times
during Brixx for 42 lives.
