     Thumper Issue 2. Editorial.

    An interesting time for Archimedes
owners since the last issue. Since mid
1993, Acorn have released details of
the Arm 7.00, the new German version of
Risc Os 3.1 (3.14) with an anti-aliased
system font and the Replay home editing
kit. The new Arcs will be with us soon,
superceding the A540, 24-bit colour, an
improved processor, better sound chip
etc. etc. The new floating point chip
is with us plus ColourBurst which will
allow 24-bit colour on some machines.
A3010 owners must be feeling quite
grumpy because it does not look as if
the Arm 250's architechture can cope
with many of these innovations. However
one company provides a 4-meg upgrade
with faster memory chips closer to Arm3
performance (cache off). Even better,
a faster version is hinted at. Simtec
should have details. The basic turbo4mb
upgrade will cost 129 plus the fitting
and carriage costs which might be kinda
hefty.
This issue of Thumper will look at
some exciting new games for the Archie,
tell a story or two, explain some more
about Ray-tracing and even include the
next level of Nasty! plus a basic level
designer, a rather spectacular picture
gallery and various other bits and
pieces.
Now look here. I can't keep writing
all of this on my own. Even with some
excellent writings by Mike Williams I
still do far too much work. Would you
like to be mildly famous? I think you
can guess what I am trying to say here.
I need articles on PD, games, art,
music, cookery, stories... anything at
all will help. Even an account of your
favourite D&D campaign or how you won
the Ryder Cup would be useful. Graphics
and samples can always be included with
the article or on their own as part of
a gallery. For instance this issue is
complete with Elsewhere, a beautiful
(but mode 13 spoils it a bit) picture
sent in from Mike William's collection.
What else can I say? I don't want to
fold like another PD mag - Opinions.
Enough moaning, many of you will
have only just recently sent off for
this issue, so I suspect a slight time
lag is understandable. Bye for now.
