   Spark was the first real compaction program to appear
on the Archie, and to be honest it shows. Spark manages to
combine the disadvantages of the last two packages
described, and is really not worth buying. Compaction
occurs as in ArcFS, but archived programs cannot be run
without decompacting them first. The only advantages Spark
has over ArcFS is the greater range of filetypes that can
be used with it - though there aren't as many as in
SparkFS

   To sum up : don't waste your money on this - software
has advanced considerably since the first days of Spark.

SparkFS

   This is a fairly new program and a sort of upgrade form
ArcFS and Spark. The program basically operates like
ArcFS, but works faster, compresses files down smaller and
is compatible with virtually every archived file
imaginable.

   SparkFS is, like Packdir, a much more proffesional
package than ArcFS or Spark, but is particularly good for
anyone heavily involved with the PC. You can read and
write most PC formats of archives, and direct disk
