Welcome people to Tom's bit on PD games. Have you ever bought a disk packed withPD games? Was it all crap? If not you must have been very lucky. The fact is that the PD libraries' games sections are full of utter rubbish... with a few exceptions. Yes, there is hope! There are a few good games out there in PD land, and I'm here to point them out to you. I'm only going to review the good stuff in the libraries, obviously I'm not going to be able to write about every game this issue. So there will be other games in PD libraries that are good - and I'll get round to them later!

This issue I'm going to waffle about :

  {S.I.C.K.'s Tetris}

  {Time Zone}

  {Gyrinus II}

Please click on one of them to read what I think about it.

                            S.I.C.K.'s Tetris (!Tertis)

O.K. so you might say, 'Its just another Tetris
Clone'. Well its not, this one's great!

This version offers 2 different styles of play,
*plotsprite tetrispic1* continuous or in levels like the arcade machine.
It also has 2 different sets of graphics (one is
very silly), and excellent special effects and
                            sound samples.

Another excellent feature is that it allows you to start on the highest level you have previously reached, so you don't have to keep playing the same old levels over and over again.

If you haven't got this game buy it!

          Time Zone...
O.K. flight sim fans, this one's for
                                          you....

A mysterious warp hole has opened in
the space time continuum and hostile
forces have been allowed to move
between adjacent time zones. - and
                                          you've got to kill 'em!

You get a choice of pilotting any one
                                          of four different planes, ranging
from a Sopwith Camel to the
                                      o futuristic Tigercat.

This game has been produced using
*plotsprite timezonepic1* Simis's Flight Sim Toolkit, so its
rather like playing Interdictor, only harder. It also offers the oppertunity to
view you're plane from the outside like most Amiga flight sims. This option
makes the game much more fun to play than Interdictor.

      More on Time Zone...

The landscape used is very large and detailled, its easily up to the standards
of Interdictor and Chocks Away. The only problem with the game is that it is
very, very hard! Unless you are particularly good at flight sims this game will
seem virtually impossible.

The sound effects are nothing special, but you can select any of three superb
sound tracks instead.

Basically this is a high quality flight sim, and considering the fact that it
only costs 1.25 can you resist buying a copy?

Apparently this is an exclusive release through the{Datafile}, so you can't get
it from any other PD library.

Gyrinus II - Son of Gyrinus (version 2.8)

o o Gyrinus II is a platform game,
the aim of which is to collect
                                          diamonds. There are also many
                                          weapons to collect.

It is set in 5 different areas
which you can move between by
                                          walking through doors. The zones
                                          are surreal, water, space,
                                          egyptian and the grave yard.

This is a huge program, requiring
2 disks, however it comes archived
                                          onto a single disk.

I actually wrote this game, so if you
think I'm biassed, here's how other
people have described it...

"by far the best game I have yet to
see in the world of Archimedes
   Public Domain." Dave McCartney.

  "completely excellent" Adam Case
