                          PSYCHEDELIC  ROCKERS DEMO
                          -------------------------

THE GAME.........................The object of the game is to reach
Rock 'N Roll Heaven. The game features sixty four levels of Musical Mayhem
and sixteen Manic Mixes of house, folk, rock and reggae music. The game
signals the return to computer gaming of RANKIN' RODNEY, the Renegade
Rastafarian hero of cult Commodore 64 games such as Jammin', Seaside Special,
Ghettoblaster and Beat It. This is Rodney's debut on the Archie. This demo
is released into Public Domain and features eight levels and four tunes. 
                                                                       

INSTRUCTIONS.................... Before starting the game, please ensure 
that the disc is write enabled, that is: the aperture at the top right of
the disc is CLOSED. Also do not remove the disc during the game, or the
game may crash. Double click the !PsyRock icon and the game will load.
 
If you have a one megabyte machine, and experience loading any
loading problems, please hard reset the computer and remove the Ramdisk.
When the game has loaded, the music will start and you will be presented
with 9 options. Point to an option and click the select button to select it.

START GAME  ............... Starts the game!
DESKTOP     ............... Returns to the desktop.
HIGH SCORE  ............... Displays the high score table.
ONE OR TWO PLAYERS ........ Toggles between the one or two player option.
SPEAKER ON OR OFF  ........ Turns the internal speaker on or off.
CONTROL     ............... Selects mouse or keyboard control.
PASSWORD    ............... Enter the password for a level.
SKILL LEVEL ............... Four levels of difficulty.
INFO        ............... Four pages of credits.

A brief word or two about CONTROL.                

If you use the mouse option, move the mouse up, down, left or right and
press select to jump. Ensure that the mouse is on a non slip surface!!!

If you use the keyboard option, use the up, down, left or right cursor keys
to move in that direction, or together with the RETURN key to jump, or use
the BASIC program "KEYS" to define your own keys.

This game supports the Serial Port joystick interface, and the joystick 
control file "PsyJoy" is provided. Load the Joystick Application prior to
loading the game, then double-click "PsyJoy". If you change the key
definitions with "KEYS", then you will need to create a new joystick control file using the Application provided by The Serial Port. 

For optimum results, the sound output of your Archimedes should be connected
to two Pink Floyd style sound systems placed either side of computer. The
video output should be connected to a five hundred foot video screen.
Failing this, the sound output should be connected to a domestic sound
system, and volume cranked up as loud as the neighbours will tolerate.

So what is the game all about, or where's it at man part one.

There are sixty four levels (this demo features eight), progressing from the
absurdly simple to the diabolically difficult. In order to complete each
level, you, the player must manoeuvre RANKIN' RODNEY to collect SIXTEEN
musical notes from the play area to complete the tune being played. The
notes will appear in the four bars at the top of the screen as RODDERS walks over them. In addition you must turn on all FOUR music channels of the mixer,again by walking over them.

RODNEY can only move on one colour at a time, but can get to other parts of
the screen by jumping on and off the arrowed conveyor belts. Press the
return key together with the direction key to jump. Walking over coloured
circles, changes the direction of the conveyor belts. Walking into
distortion, will mean a lost life. You start with three lives, and an extra
life is given upon completion of every eight levels.
                                                                       
Upon completion of each level, the password for the next level will appear,
so once completed, you need not play a level again, unless you really want
to, of course.

To pause the game, toggle the space bar. On this demo, F1 is a cheat key,
taking you to the next level, and F3 will return you to the options panel.

A word or two about SCORING.
 
The higher the skill level, the higher the score. The earlier in each level
that you turn on all the mixer channels, the higher is the scoring on that
level. You score mainly from collecting notes and completing levels, but
there are one or two special megascore features, later in the full game.

The Nasties and what they do.

BUMNOTES.       These black notes move around the screen and if RODNEY
                collides with one, a note is removed from the bars at the
                top of the screen and replaced on the play area.

UPPERS.         With a happy smile, these are your friends, if you can
                catch them. They cancel out the effect of the DOWNERS, 
                MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, and some other nasties.

DOWNERS.        With a gloomy face, these make the music go out of tune
                and make it impossible to complete a level. The screen
                will go grey until RODNEY collects an UPPER.

JOYSTICK.       Reverses the action of the keyboard or mouse for a period
                of time.

CIRCLES.        Reverse the direction of the conveyers. Can be used
                strategically in some cases.

INSTRUMENTS.    GUITAR, DRUMS, and FLUTE will mangle the mix.  Effect is
                cancelled by collecting an UPPER.  A level cannot be 
                completed until the music is playing in tune.
                            
RODNEY'S LADY   Contact with her produces several hearts. Collect these for
                MEGASCORE.
           
The full game includes Psychiatrists, Policemen, Witches, Polytikians
and Angels to help and hinder RODNEY as he battles his way to Rock N' Roll
Heaven.
