The !Walker Demo - 2 Meg, hard disc V 1.10.X Final
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original Walker Demo (C) Imaginetics Inc. Tx, U.S.A for the Amiga range.

Archimedes conversion by Glenn Baugh 6/90

Note: If you get prompted to "ensure source media present" when running
this demo under a version of Risc-OS other than the ROM based version
or it simply doesn't work, kill Risc-OS 3 or 2.5 and try again.

About.
------
This is the 2meg + hard disc version of the Amiga Walker Demo 1 (1meg
version) and comes arc'ed on a single floppy. I hope I don't see PD
distributors trying to put this lot onto two floppies unarc'ed (and
charging more!) as this version is intended for hard disc users for whom
unarcing is much simpler than for floppy users. If PD libraries would
like a version for two meggers without hard disc which comes on two
floppies then if they would like to contact me I will oblige on a 1 for 1
exchange. The floppy version stacks the animations on the first disc into
ram and only has to read the remaining files off the second disc as needed
so you only have to go through the loading sequence once. I do not yet
run a PD library so I cannot accept orders or packages of discs requesting
copies for these. Try the PD libraries as I am sending out copies of the
various permutations of this demo to a few of them to spread it around.
You're welcome to write to me but I cannot act as a disc copier /
supplier, it takes up too much time.

This is of course in the PUBLIC DOMAIN and thus can be freely copied for
free distribution. In addition please note the request as to how it may be
distributed as per the Imaginetics copyright notice. Please keep my and
Imaginetics credits intact.

Bits Of Stuff.
--------------
The actual demo is ported from the Amiga 1Mb Demo version 1.0 but the poxy
sprites on the Archimedes atleast double in size (nearly triple) thus making
it a 2 meg version until now(5/90). Each segment (scene) of animation is
loaded from ram / floppy individually as required so as to save ram.

A more compressed version is planned but I will have to be able achieve a
compression ratio of higher than 5:1 to make it worthwhile.

The full length Arc version was taken from one running on a 1meg Amiga500
which had no problem in loading the whole animation into memory at once. A
1meg version is on the way asap!

Mixed screen sizes of 1280x1024 & 1280x800 are used of mode 13 & 15 sprites.
There are 3 scenes of the walker plus the titles seen in this demo. To find
the right combination of which files to run from disc and which from ram:
was pretty tricky but I think it worked out OK.

Work has allready begun on converting the Amiga 2 meg version and the Walker
Demo 2 Trailer!

In Use.
---------
Type ESC to exit gracefully.

S to skip a scene/screen.

Sound.
------
I've used a soundtracker module but I don't know who it's by.

Acknowledgements.
-----------------
Imaginetics Inc. of course for the original Amiga demo.
Ace computing for !Splice
Hugo Fiennes for STracker
D.Piling for !SparkPlug

Tools Used.
-----------
Arc, Amiga, extra ram, hard disc, NComm (Amiga ZModem comms program, nothing
like it on the Arc unfortuately), STripper, MEdit, !Translator, NULL cable,
!Paint and most importantly !Splice by ACE Computing without which I
wouldn't have bothered to to do this as I haven't had the time to write my
own animator yet.
