!RPFS
v 1.17 (26th August 1993)

This program is Shareware.
This means that you can copy this program to anyone you like, but if you
find the program useful, you should register, as explained below. This
entitles you to the latest version of this program, and of all my other
applications.
If you do copy the program it should be in its original format, with ALL of
the accompanying files. That is : !Boot
                                  !Config
                                  !Help
                                  !Run
                                  !RunImage
                                  !Sprites
                                  Code
                                  MakeCode
                                  Messages
                                  Sprites

Purpose
-------
A file encrypter which does not corrupt the data when an incorrect password
is given.

To use
------
[An RPDir is a read-protected-directory, as created by this program.
'RPDir' is easier to type than the alternative!]

Double click on the icon in the filer-window, or double click on a
previously saved RPDir, to load the program. This should install an icon on
the icon bar. Clicking menu (the middle mouse button) on this icon will
create a menu, allowing you to see the program information, to create a new
RPDir, to set the temporary directory for RPFS work, to save the default
temporary directory, and to quit the program.
To create a new RPDir, go to the previously mentioned menu, move the
pointer across the 'New RPDir' option, and this will create a normal save
window. From here, save the RPDir to where you want it. This will open the
'Access rite' window. This has two writable icons, one for your name and
the other for your chosen password. Enter these strings, and press RETURN
when the caret is in the password icon. This will open the main RPFS
window. N.B. If your typing is not very good, it may be worth closing the
main window, and loading it from disc again, as this will prevent data
being encrypted, which cannot be loaded again because of a mis-typed
password.
To load a previously saved RPDir, double click on it, or drag it to the
icon on the icon bar. This will open the same access window as when the
RPDir was created. Enter the same strings as was entered to create the
RPDir (ensuring case sensitivity) and the main window will open.
The main window is very similar to a normal filer window. It shows icons
for each file and their name underneath. To encrypt a file, drag it into
this window. This will add the file to the RPDir, and create a suitable
icon. Clicking menu on a file icon allows you to perform a few file
operations, to open the parent directory, and to count all files in the
directory. Going across the 'File '....'' option allows you to copy,
rename, delete and count the file selected. The copy and rename options are
limited to copying within the RPDir. If no file is under the mouse when
menu is clicked, then the 'File '....'' option will be greyed out (as-per
any other filer-window).
Due to the nature of this program, it is very possibly not as effective
at file protection as its competitors. However, I wrote it to prevent data
being lost when somebody tried to look at it, and at least I succeed in
that (even if the program is slow, and not very well written!)
You are limited to 77 files per directory with this program (as in any
other ADFS directory) but you will probably find that the program gets too
slow long before you reach 77 files!

Recovering data
---------------
If you cannot remember the name or password that you entered when you
created the directory, I can recover it. For me to do so, send me a COPY of
the data file and something to cover my costs (disc to send you the
recovered data, P&P etc...). I will then do my best to recover your data.
(Of course, it is better if you don't forget the info in
the first place!)

Bugs & Improvements
-------------------
Please report any bugs found and any possible improvements you can think of
to me at the address shown below.

Registering
-----------
To register, send 5 to me, at the address shown below, stating what version
of which programs you have. You can enclose your own disk for the programs,
and if you do so you can deduct 50p from the price. Registering entitles you
to upgrade to later versions of the same programs and to get new programs
for the price of 1. Any additional contributions from overseas towards
postage would be greatly appreciated.
