About !Splitter

!Splitter is a small utility to split giant textfiles into smaller ones.
These can then be easily read and/or sent to the printer.

!Splitter is FreeWare. For conditions of use, read the copyright notice
at the end of this manual.

Operation

The program installs itself on the icon bar. Clicking on the icon with
Select or Adjust will open the main window. Dragging a textfile to the
iconbar icon will have the same result.
This window will have a writable entry at the top, some options in the
middle and a OK and Cancel button at the bottom.

If you dragged a text-file to the iconbar icon, the writable entry
will contain the full name of the text-file. If you on the other hand
had clicked on Select or Adjust, you will have to fill in the full name
of the text-file you want to split.

The options are the following:

Include Pagenr. : This allows each part of the splitted text-file to
have a pagenumber at the bottom. This pagenumber can
be specified with the Pagenumber option.

Auto update : This makes sure that the pagenumber is incremented with
each text-file you split, not overwritting the previous
                   parts.

Use Ramdisc : This creates the parts on the Ramdisc, instead of in the
directory of the file to split. This minimizes disc overhead
and thus allows for faster splitting. Please note that if
a Ramdisc does not exist, !Splitter will create one itself.
If it already exists, !Splitter will create an error telling
you that it could not resize the Ramdisc. If you are sure
that the Ramdisc is big enough to contain the text-files
choose OK, otherwise choose Cancel. !Splitter will continue
splitting in the former case and abandon splitting in the
                   latter.

Nr. of lines : This allows you to specify how many textlines each part
should contain. Use the arrows to increment and decrement
the given value or click on the writable icon to set it
yourself. Please note that the Include Pagenr. options
adds 2 lines to this value while splitting. This is to
include a empty line and a line containing the pagenumber.

Pagenumber : This allows you to set the pagenumber used in the filename
of each part and, if the Include Pagenr. option is on, the
number which is included at the bottom of each part.

The OK-button will start splitting, indicated by the 'pressed in'-state of the
icon on the iconbar. During splitting, the scissor will 'cut' to indicate that
splitting is in progress. Once splitting is done, the icon will return to the
normal state.

The Cancel-button closes the window.

Menu

Clicking with Menu on the icon on the iconbar will bring up the menu. It includes
the usual Info entry, a Cancel option and a Quit option.
The Cancel is normally greyed out because there is no splitting to be canceled.
During splitting this option will be selectable and will cancel the splitting.
The Quit option is normaled selectable and will quit the application. During
splitting this option will be greyed out. You will have to choose Cancel first
before you can quit the application.
