To make any use of the application
you need the !Cfs application supplied
by Computer Concepts Ltd. The Product
name is Compression. There is a public
domain part of the Compression product
called !CfsReader if you have this then
the Unpack part of this application will
function as specified.

The function of the CFS Copier is to
provide an easier method of putting object
into or taking objects out of the cfs#
filer, ie. packing objects and unpacking
objects. Whilst also overcoming the
shortcomings or oversights in release
1.03 of Compression.

Normally cfs# requires two filer windows to
be open one is the cfs# view and the other
is the normal filer view. With these two
views displayed files can be compressed
by dragging an object from the normal
view to the cfs# view, or un-compressed
by dragging from a cfs# view to a normal
view.

Compression is very useful but for the
following few problems:-

1) Having two views on the screen can take
up a lot of space on the screen.

2) It can get confusing as to which way
   to go.

3) If you drag an item from a non cfs#
window to a cfs# window and then
repeat it again, ie twice, it will
be compressed twice and will not
be valid untill you drag it back!!!

3) Although files called !Sprites are
not compressed by cfs# !Sprites22 and
!Sprites23 still are. This is a nuisance
for Risc_OS3 users as these sprite files
are used in high definition modes.
Also Compression only checks the name
not the file type therefore if a file
was called !Sprite but was in fact not
a sprite it would not be compressed!

4) One file which is best not compressed
is !Boot file, because if compressed
and compression is not running, the
message No run action specified for
this file type will come up when the
filer windows are opened, for every
   !Boot file!!

5) Some small files can get larger after
   being compressed!!

6) Compressed fonts will give an error
when used so they must not be compressed.
   Although the compression manual does
state that it is not worth compressing
font files it will do so if you let it!!

7) Compressing Archive/Spark files is
a waste of time as the saving is less
   than 1%

8) Ascertaining how much space has been
   saved is also not easy.......

Naturally by using CFS Copier the above
problems are avoided.

To find out how to use the CFS Copier
read the Mouse section of this manual.
