mpeg-1.0.tar.Z is a uuencoded file containing the MPEG player
for Unix. It has been compiled and used successfully on the following
platforms:

 HP PA-RISC (HP/UX 8.X, X11R4) (i.e., HP 9000/7XX's)
 Sun Sparc (SunOS 4.X, X11R5)
 DECstation 5000 and Alpha

Other platforms will most likely work, it's worth a try.
This software is pretty new, it was released 11/16/92. Thanks to the MPEG
faq for letting me know it existed!

You may obtain many things from my ftp site (ftp.rahul.net). Login as
"anonymous" with your username and site id as password (e.g.
butter@cool.com). cd to /pub/bryanw, and you are in my "root" directory.
I have files for MSDOS ("pc"), Unix (unix) and some general source code and
FAQs (MPEG faq, ABPE faq). Some of the highlights: JPEG viewers for DOS,
contact sheet makers for unix, etc.

Please don't send mail to me if this doesn't compile successfully on your
machine. I use the DOS MPEG player, but thought I'd post this since it's
very new and I'm sure many people don't know it exists yet.

There are many MPEG demo files available from toe.cs.berkeley.edu
(128.32.149.117) in the directory /pub/multimedia/jpeg. You may ftp there
and get a few MPEGs for testing, but I'll post an MPEG here for those who
cannot ftp (a small MPEG) so they'll at least know if the software compiled
correctly.
