                            Sounds Database v1.02
=============================================================================

Public Domain
-------------

This program, the interface manager and the help utility can be freely
copied as long as no they are supplied complete with ALL the files and
that they are not put to any commercial use and that no money, apart from
administration costs are charged for it. Isn't this boring?

Introduction
------------

The Sounds Database is a database that allows you to store you record
collection on your computer. It has the following features, some of which
were assholes to get working:

-) Up to 1000 records per datafile (hence the willful misuse of disc
        space)
-) Print facility (how incredibly interesting)
-) Ouput of all records at ASCii file so that you can load it into
other applications eg. Impressions (someone buy me a copy).
-) Extensive search facilities, allowing searches in all fields apart
from Format and Misc. Additional search facility finds spare,
unused records (just in case you have over 1000 records and may
        have 'missed' a record out)
-) All the usual database manipulation functions (Previous, Next,
        Start, End, Delete: etc.)
-) Pretty 3D icons thanks to the Interface manager.

However, there are a few hardware requirements:

-) The program takes up 256K of RAM. Therefore, you may need to quit
some other tasks on 1Mb machines, or even if you have a 4Mb machine
and you don't bother to get rid of memory hungry tasks ... like me!

Instructions
------------

Load the program in the usual way by double clicking on it's filer icon.
This icon is supposed to resemble a compact disc which I think is quite good
considering I can't draw.

Click on the new CD icon on the icon bar and you will be presented with the
main window. All the icons at the bottom a pretty self-explanatory. The
record number is displayed at the top. Next to the 'date' box is a box
showing the format in which to put the date (dd/mm/yyyy). This means, for
example: 04/11/1975 or 28/10/1990 etc. If you stick to this format for the
date, you will have no problems when using the search facility to find a
certain date.

THE MAIN MENU

Clicking the MENU button within this window will display the main menu. The
first option on this menu is the 'File' option. Go across to the arrow and
a window will be displayed showing the current filename (if any), it's size
and it's date. This is updated every time you load or save a file and does
not keep a running check on how big your file is like !Edit does. When you
first load the program, the 'date' box displays the date and time at which
you loaded the program, until you load or save a file.

The next option is the 'Save' option. Using this window in the usual way will
save your file to whatever filer window you choose to drag it to. It will not
save to the wimpscrap eg. directly into !Edit or something without saving
it to a filer first.

The next option is the 'Print' option. This does not use a printer driver and
so it would be preferable if you could have a parallel printer. If you do
not, use the ASCii option detailed below and drag it to your printer driver.
Using the Raw Text option, enter from which record to which record you want
to be printed and click on 'Print'. The computer will ask you whether your
printer is ready or not and if it is will proceed to print the specified
records.

The 'Save TextFile' option does exactly the same thing as the print option
but saves the output as a normal &FFF text file to a disc. Again, enter
from which to which records you would like to be included. This facility
does not include those records whoose titles are blank so it only includes
used records.

On clicking on the 'Search' option, you will be presented with a large window
split into two main parts. The first part enables you to search for a
particular track/artist/album or date. Click on the relevant radio icon
(the boxes will be greyed and the active box shows which field will be
searched) and click on the FIRST 'Search' icon. On finding the record, it
will be displayed. If it can't find it, it'll tell you so. It will search
for your record FROM the current record currently displayed in the main
window so you may wish to send it back to the start of the file before
searching.

The second part of this window is extremely useful if you have filled a
complete file up and you want to find a spare record, one that you may have
missed out during the long hours of typing. Enter the record from which you
want to start searching from and click on the second 'Search' icon. When
the program finds a clean record, it's number will be displayed in the 2nd
box. You can then click on 'Go to this record' and the record will be
displayed in the main window or if you click on 'Continue', it will look for
another clean record.

The last option on the main menu is the 'Help' option and it loads this help
program. The Iconbar menu allows you to save your datafile and look at the
info window.

-----

If there are any problems or bugs, please write to me and I will fix them in
later versions to come (this does not include the dodgy windows).
