Special instructions regarding wiring the TNC to ARC lead.

The tnc driver programs all use the following lead configuration.

Archimedes TNC
Pin 1+4+6 connected together. (None to tnc)
Pin 2 Pin 3
Pin 3 Pin 2
Pin 5 Pins 1+7
Pin 7 Pin 4
Pin 8 Pin 5

The next line is only necessary for the packet driver programs.

Pin 9 (ring indicator) Pin 8 (connect status).

The above has performed here with no apparent problems BUT please
check if you are in any doubt before proceeding as i cannot be
responsible for any mishaps to your computer, radio, maiden aunt etc!

Setting up the Archimedes.

The program prefers the archimedes to be set up as follows

DATA 5 and BAUD 7

To achieve this go to the desktop or to the * prompt and enter
*CONFIGURE DATA 5 <return>
*CONFUGURE BAUD 7 <return>
<ctrl/break>
You may wish to *CON. SCREENSIZE 20<return><ctrl/brk>

After ensuring the tnc is set up to run at 9600 baud no parity..

YOU MUST USE THE TASK MANAGER TO CREATE A RAM DISC BEFORE RUNNING
OR *CONFIGURE RMAFSIZE xxk where xx is the required (or possible)
size in kbytes...................................................

Extra notes on changing over from hf to vhf ports.

To make this easier i have wired a 7 pole switch into the system to
fully change over the ports on the tnc, see the pictures in the
directory "Wiring". As a bonus this means RTTY, ASCII can be available
on the VHF side.

*******************************************************************

THIS PROGRAM REQUIRES THAT YOU CREATE A RAM DISC BEFORE RUNNING !!!

THE RAM DISC SHOULD HAVE 20K FREE FOR EACH PICTURE TO BE SAVED SO A
MINIMUM WOULD BE APPROX. 44K. I HAVE RUN THE 310 WITH A 500K RAM-DISC
AND !Wefax................................................

REMOVE ANY CURRENT TASKS LIKE !Edit for maximum room.

*******************************************************************

Clicking on !Wefax runs the program and the options 'D', 'T', 'F'
'S' or 'Q' may be selected.

'D' Asks if you want to clear the ram disc, answer 'Y' or any
key. If you entered 'Y' you will be asked to confirm Y/N/Q etc,
enter 'Q' to clear all.

Enter "S#" where # is a number.

Enter 'T' to go to the tnc driver, <delete> to quit driver.

You may enter P1 to print pic1, L1 to load and view pic1 (space to
continue) to print a negative of the picture enter N1.

Enter C if you wish to clear the ram disc, you are given the usual
choices from the ADFS as to Y,N,Q,A.

Enter M and you are asked for start and end numbers, these are the
numbers of the first and last pictures to be printed (no negative
option here as yet). ie print say 2 screens in a row with NO breaks
thus getting one strip from a large chart.

Enter 'S' or 'F' to go to the wefax screen
(slow or fast drum speed).

Press 'Y' or 'N' for auto-save ON or OFF.
You can still use the <Copy> key to capture any wanted screens when
Auto-save is OFF.

NOTES

To make it possible to save the pictures without loosing any
information and to allow several pictures to be retained in the
standard 310 (1 meg. memory) mode 0 has been used. It is also very
easy to 'poke' the mode 0 screen as the bits set to a '1' in any byte
'poked' give a white dot on the screen.

Two drum speeds have been heard at this qth, on the vlf band
(sub 200kcs) the faster speed seems to rule ok but on 10 Mcs the
Russian stations sometimes use a slower speed, referred in the
program as fast and slow as i am not sure exactly what the speeds are.

Signals on the LF band circa 150 kcs are very good and all i use
is a small up-converter cost about 5 into the TS530 on a 'IF' of
10 mcs..(thats mhz to you youngsters hi).

Pictures can be moved into "PAINT" or "DRAW", left as they are or
a 'CONVERT' program on the disc used to change the pictures mode.
This program is on for experimental use and comes from RISC USER.
To use "convert" open the "Utilities" directory and double click
on "convert", converted pictures are saved in the "Pics" directory
as PIC#c, PIC# is retained.
If you take a picture into '!Paint' it can be easily printed in
black and white by telling the !paint menu "NO PALETTE", try scalling
one down by 2 or 4 if your printer can do it..

The Kam will be left set to MAXUSERS 0/1 as it is assumed you will
use !KamPkt as a driver where it is reset.

The print option used in the program is *HARDCOPYFX

Please let me know of problem bugs and how to re-create them.

******** All saving is done to the ram disc. ********

=================================================================

NEW VERSIONS (if included).

!Wefax16 and !Am_Fax.

Both of the above operate in much the same manner as !Wefax but run
in mode 16 and have only a single screen.

!Am_Fax is for a single drum speed and is set up for receiving amateur
transmissions such as are seen on 20 metres at weekends.

!Wefax16 is for reception of weather and 'wire' pictures and general
monitoring.

Both save to the RAM_DISC but as the picture is 132k you can't store
many on a 310 ! Before running either a ram disc of >140k and 132k+ of
screen ram must be allocated.

REMEMBER TO SAVE TO DISC ANY IMPORTANT FILES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
