!AMFWaste  1.00 (23-Jun-92)
===========================
Waste Storage
=============
AMFWaste is a waste storage system.It allows files,directories and
applications that would otherwise have been deleted to be stored for a while
whilst it is decided whether they are really needed.In effect,AMFWaste acts
a desktop wastebin,storing unwanted files until either the user clears the
waste,or sufficient time passes for an automatic clearance.

Use
===
Once loaded,AMFWaste will install an icon to the left of the icon bar,
similar to a hard disc icon,to show that AMFWaste is a sort of filing system.
Dragging files onto this AMFWaste icon will store them within the AMFWaste
system,and delete the originals from the disc.The AMFWaste storage area may
be seen by clicking on the AMFWaste icon using select,and a menu may be
called up using menu.Unlike some desktop wastebins,AMFWaste uses a fully
functional filer window for its waste,allowing all the usual filer
operations on the files stored within AMFWaste.To retrieve a file,merely
drag it out of the waste directory,onto another filer window.Alternatively,
dragging whilst holding SHIFT down will cause the filer to be removed.

Pressing menu on the AMFWaste icon will open a menu,from which may be
selected Clear waste.This will delete all the waste in the waste directory,
irretrievably.Do not clear the waste if you are not sure.Confirmation is
asked for before the waste is cleared,so that you can be sure whether you
wish to clear all the waste.

Preferences
===========
Selecting Preferences from the AMFWaste menu will open another window named
Preferences.From here,several features of AMFWaste may be set on and off.The
first option is Confirm Clear waste.If this is set,confirmation will be
required every time the user chooses to clear the waste.Ignoring the next
two icons for now,the next option is Keep waste until cleared.If this is set,
the waste files may be retrieved from the waste directory,otherwise,the
files are totally deleted and may not be retrieved,as soon as they are
dragged onto the AMFWaste icon.The final option controls automatic clearing
of the waste.If this is set,the waste directory will be cleared every amount
of time given.If Confirm first auto clear waste is set,the first time
AMFWaste tries to automatically clear the waste directory,it will seek
confirmation.This is useful if your system crashes,and you wish to retrieve
your waste some time afterwards.The option Confirm other auto clear waste
will seek confirmation for any other automatic clearing of the waste
directory.

Click on OK to set the preferences temporarily,Cancel to revert to the
original preferences,and Save to save the preferences permanently.

When automatic clearing has been selected,a file,namely
<AMFWaste$Dir>.AutoClear will be saved immediately before the automatic
clearing takes place,so that when AMFWaste is reloaded,it knows when to
clear the waste.Using this system,you can set AMFWaste to clear its waste
every week,for example (7 days),and switch your computer on and off as
required.As soon as AMFWaste is loaded after seven days are passed (or
whatever time is set),it will attempt to clear the waste.
