!AMFUtils  1.00 (23-Jun-92)
===========================
Desktop Utilities
=================
AMFUtils is an application that is designed to fill the need for a range of
desktop utilities that were not provided within RiscOs.It allows the saving
of various files,the filetype setting of files,control of the mouse speed,
greater control over files,screen redrawing and control over the sound
system.

Use
===
Once loaded,pressing menu over the AMFUtils icon will reveal two
options,Save and Utilities.It is from these two options that most of the
utilities are available.From the save option,the ROM sprites,RAM sprites
(these two are the sprites that are used to make icons),the system
sprites,the CMOS RAM and the system font character definitions may be saved
in the usual manner.For the system font character definitions,a start and
end character must be given to determine which part of the font is saved.

CMOS RAM files can be reloaded using AMFCmos,and the system font files can
be reloaded either by double clicking on them,or by loading them into
AMFFont,or a similar editor.

From the utilities option,SetType will open a window of the same name,
showing a filetype icon.Files dragged onto this icon will be given that
filetype.The current filetype may be altered using the arrow icons (use
SHIFT and CTRL to speed the movement up), or by entering a new value within
the box provided.

The Mouse speed option opens another window.From this,the current mouse
speed may be temporarily set from between one to five using the top row of
icons,permanently configured using the Configure icon,and reset to the
configured value using the Reset icon.

The File OSCLI option will open a window,whereonto files and directories may
be dragged.Entering an OSCLI command (for example,DUMP,TYPE,WIPE,etc) into
this window will perform that command to all files that are dragged onto the
window.

The Redraw option will redraw the entire screen.This is useful after an
IconSprites command.

Finally,the Volume option will open a window allowing the volume of the
sound system to be set.Unfortunately,this will not work with some programs,
for example SoundTracker routines that deliberately override this volume
control.Test will produce an audible beep,Audio will switch the sound system
on/off and Speakeer will switch on/off the internal speaker.Finally,the four
numbered icons control the maximum number of voices in use.

File Operations
===============
A file,directory or application may be dragged onto the AMFUtils icon,and a
menu will appear.This will offer a range of commands that may be applied to
that file.To alter this commands,use Edit to examine the file
<AMFUtils$Dir>.Defaults.Full instructions as to how to add new file
operations are contained within this file.Suffice to say,the existing file
operations are comprehensive,and cover most of the standard file types,
providing a wide range of options.
