!AMFSlide  1.20 (23-Jun-92)
===========================
Slide Database
==============
AMFSlide is a database that will allow you to store information on slides,or
photographs,or anything of a similar nature.It will allow two lines of
comment per slide,along with a box number,a code and information bits.These
may then be used to search for individual slides.

Use
===
Once loaded,click on the AMFSlide icon to open a window named Slide.This is
the main window.Initially this will contain details on only one blank
slide,although it is possible to set up AMFSlide so that any file is loaded
when AMFSlide is loaded.Should the initial window be closed,it can be
reopened by clicking on the AMFBase icon on the icon bar.

Editing slides
==============
To edit a slide,click on its name in the main window.The slide will be
highlighted in red,and the Edit window will open,containing details of that
slide.The Edit window also provides the gateway to a variety of other
editing options,discussed below.

The Edit window contains a number of writeable icons containing the slide
data.These may be edited in the usual way.However,the slide is not changed
until the OK icon is selected,or until RETURN is pressed repeatedly.To
reinstate the original data (assuming that OK has not be selected),select
the Cancel icon.To clear that slides data (but not removing it permanently
until OK has been selected) select Clear.The two arrow icons to the side of
the current slide number to the top left of the window can be clicked on to
change the current slide.

Edit window options
===================
There are six other icons to the bottom of the Edit window.These may be
selected one at a time to operate the other slide editing features.Each will
open its own window.Should one of them already be open,close its window to
allow selection of another one.

Adding slides
=============
The most useful option when first entering slides is the Add option.Once
selected,a new window will open.Enter the data of the new slides,pressing
RETURN at the fields that you wish to leave blank.When all the fields have
been entered,press RETURN again,and the window will change to the next slide,
adding the previous slide to the list.To stop adding slides,simply close
the window.Be sure that the final slide you have entered has indeed be
added to the list.

Inserting a slide
=================
Suppose that when you were entering your slide data,you missed out a slide
near the beginning.Instead of entering all the slide data again,click on
Insert in the Edit window.Before doing so,click on the slide which you want
the new slide to appear afterwards in the Slides window.

Enter the slide data for the new slide in the Insert window and click on OK.
If you don't want to insert a new slide after all,either close the window or
click on Cancel.Use the Insert slide feature with care,as it renumbers your
slides.

Deleting a slide
================
If you wish to delete a slide,click on Delete in the Edit window.A window
will appear,containing the data of the slide to be deleted (it is the
selected slide in the Slides window).Click on OK if you are sure you wish to
delete this slide,or click on Cancel or close the window if you are not.Use
the Delete slide feature with care,as it renumbers your slides.

Bits
====
Let us say that we wish to state that on a particular slide,the mysterious
figure Solemnis the Doomwatcher appears in the slide.Instead of entering
Solemnis as part of the slide data,select the slide required in the Slides
window and click on Bits in the Edit window.A new window will appear,with
sixteen option sprites inside.

Initially,all sixteen options will contain only numbers.Click on Define in
the Slide Data window and a new window will appear,containing the names for
the bits.Enter the new bit names by clicking on them and click on OK when
you are satisfied.The bit names in the Slide Data window will be altered to
match those in the Define window.Click on Cancel if you do not wish to alter
the bit names,or close the Define window.

You can now click on,say,the option marked Solemnis,to show that Solemnis
appears in the slide.These options can be used in the find routine (below),
to find all slides containing Solemnis.

Finding slides
==============
So we have entered our slide data (or loaded in a previous set).Suppose we
want to find a slide containing the word "AMF" in the title.This may be
achieved using the Find option.

Click on the Find icon in the Edit window.A new window will appear,the Find
window.If you wanted to search for a string in the first name field,enter
a string into this,likewise for the other fields.The fields can also be
combined,for example you could search for "AMF" in the first name field,
"Doomwatcher" in the second name field and "1" in the box field.

The bits can also be set.To do this set the bits that need to be in the
picture,although bits and fields can be left blank to ignore them.(searching
with bits is slower than searching without bits).Click on Clear to clear all
the fields (but not the bits) and Cancel to quit the find.To start the
find,click on OK.

The hourglass will appear (on long files or with bit search),and a new
window entitled "Found" will appear.This contains all the slides that match
the find data given.Clicking on any slide in this window will pop up its
details in the Edit window.

Saving the file
===============
To save the file as an AMFSlide data file,press menu on the Slides window,
move to Save and save in the usual RISCOS manner.However,a slide file can
also be saved as a text file,that can be printed out.Click on File in the
Edit window and another window will appear,with a RISCOS save window and
various options that can be set.

If neither Bits nor List is set,the text file produced is similar to :

AMFSlide Slide file : adfs::AMFSlide.$.SlideFile

Slide 0001  Box : 1
The massive slide show

Slide 0002  Box : 1
AMF and his family
(Frankfurt airport)

If Bits is set,then it becomes :

AMFSlide Slide file : adfs::AMFSlide.$.SlideFile

Slide 0001  Box : 1
The massive slide show

Slide 0002  Box : 1
AMF and his family
(Frankfurt airport)
Contains :
AMF  AMF's parents
AMF's family

If List is set then it becomes:

AMFSlide Slide file : adfs::AMFSlide.$.SlideFile

0001 The massive slide show
0002 AMF and his family
0003 AMF and his family waiting
0004 AMF and his family sleeping
0005 AMF with his head in his hands
0006 AMF and his parents
0007 The genetic cloning laboratory
0008 The effects of time on a tree
0009 The effects of time on a tree
0010 The effects of time on a tree

Loading a file
==============
An AMFSlide data file can be loaded simply by dragging it onto the AMFSlide
icon.

Preferences
===========
Press menu on the AMFSlide icon on the icon bar and select Preferences.The
Preferences window will appear,allowing various options to be set.If Load
file is set then the file in the icon next to it will be loaded on the next
load up.To set the filename,drag an AMFSlide data file onto this window.The
number of slides per startup determines the memory required,and the number
of slides per box determines how the automatic box numbering is performed.

Click on Save to save the preferences,Cancel to reinstate the old ones and
OK to set the preferences only for the current load up.(they will be lost
when the computer is powered down)
