Hourglass 3.06 (10-Jan-1992)
============================

This program is PUBLIC DOMAIN; this means you can copy it about as much as
you like as long as you include all the files and you don't make any money
out of it.

Instructions
------------

I wonder if I am the only person who hates the standard hourglass? I
haven't seen any other replacement hourglasses, even though they're
reasonably easy to write.
Anyway, this module will replace the standard nasty blue-on-blue triangular
hourglass with a much nicer wooden one, with real sand! (sort of) (It's not
green, but I couldn't use the real colours for the filer icon.)
The percentage indicator is now a bar which appears on the left hand side
of the hourglass, the amount of yellow shows the percentage. The LEDs (not
that I've ever seen any program which uses them) light up on the left and
right sides of the middle of the hourglass.
To try out the Hourglass, go into BASIC and type 'SYS "Hourglass_On"'. To
see the percentage bar, type 'SYS "Hourglass_Percentage",XX' where XX is the
percentage you want (use 100 to turn the bar off). To see the LEDs use
'SYS "Hourglass_LEDs",X' where X is 0-3. Use 'SYS "Hourglass_Off"' to turn
the hourglass off again. All of the above is in the PRM page 1389-1395.
The module is only 3k long, plus 1k workspace, so it doesn't make a very
large dent in your memory.
You don't need the whole of this directory to use Hourglass; only the
actual module, 'Hourglass'.

You can now turn the hourglass on and off using *commands - "*Hourglass On"
will turn the hourglass on and "*Hourglass Off" will turn it off. There is
also a *Mode command I've put in (the reason is fairly obscure and I won't
bother to explain it here). This changes the current screen mode - the syntax
is "*Mode <mode>" eg. "*Mode 0".

This version is due to whinging by Jon Thackray and Aiden Corey that they
didn't like my old animation. This one is bigger (so hopefully clearer) and
you can see the sand trickling down (cor). Jon doesn't like the percentage
bar either, but that's his problem.

If you've got Elite and you haven't got EliteCht i1.08 then you're missing
something really wonderful (it is, honest).

Look out for Lifeguard, an utterly amazing screen saver - features are:

    - interesting and pretty effects (fireworks, stars, fish ...)
    - multiple effects installed at once
    - works in and out of desktop (no effects outside desktop though)
    - written in 100% ARM code
    - only uses 16k memory, plus effects
    - multitasks while blanked so printing, calculations, chess etc. carry on
    - you can write your own effects (if you can program assembler)
    - you can have your own custom bouncy sprite if you can or can't program
      assembler
    - it saves your screen
    - it's got an original name

Cheques, bug reports, cash, complaints, demos, PD, just about anything to:
