Images - in various formats

by Alan Wrigley and Richard Hallas

To help you explore the use of ImageFS, which is supplied elsewhere on this disc, we are providing a few images which have been saved in various foreign formats.

Note that these are all true-colour images, and should therefore preferably be viewed in a 16 million- or 32 thousand-colour screen mode. If your machine is not capable of displaying more than 256 colours, then ensure that Sprite format is set to Old in the ImageFS global options. This will cause ImageFS to convert the images into 256 colours using dithering, which will result in them looking much better in 256-colour screen modes.

Photographs by Alan Wrigley:

Gondolas is a TIFF file. It shows gondolas moored in St Mark's Basin in Venice, with the island and church of San Giorgio Maggiore in the background.

Sunset is a BMP file. It was taken at Lake Almanor in California and shows a spectacular sunset over Mount Lassen.

Pig is in the PCX format. It shows a pig cooling off from the burning heat of central California in an animal sanctuary near Orlando.

Photographs by Richard Hallas:

These scenes were all photographed using an Olympus C-800L digital camera (reviewed in RISC User 10:6), and hopefully give some idea of the quality of this excellent camera.

Butternab is an AmigaIFF file. It shows a view of Butternab Wood in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

RossOnWye is a PBMPlus file. This is actually a photograph of an oil painting of Ross-on-Wye, and was used as the test picture in the digital cameras review in RISC User 10:6 (p. 12).

Wasdale is in the Apple PICT2 file format. It shows a picturesque bridge at Wasdale Head in the Lake District.
