KillDA

by Tony Howat

KillDA enables you to swiftly remove dynamic areas that rogue programs have left behind under RISC OS 3.5 and later.

Versions of RISC OS from 3.50 onwards feature dynamic areas, which give applications a way of allocating large chunks of memory. Unfortunately, when a program crashes it can leave dynamic areas behind; these areas can be several megabytes in size, so it is obviously advantageous to free up this memory. KillDA allows you to kill these unused dynamic areas quickly and easily through a RISC OS front-end.

Using KillDA
Load up KillDA and click on the icon which appears on the icon bar. This displays the main KillDA window. Choose a dynamic area from the pop-up menu to display some details about it. To kill a dynamic area, select it from the pop-up menu and then click on the Kill button. The dynamic area should disappear gracefully.

Dynamic areas which are OS-related cannot be killed safely, and are therefore greyed out. Be very careful when killing dynamic areas: make sure that those you kill are not being used, or you could provoke some nasty crashes!
