UHFGuide - Television and Radio frequency guide

by Craig Beech

UHFGuide is a useful utility for finding UHF Television and FM Radio frequencies. The information applies to the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Using UHFGuide
UHFGuide is very easy to use. Just load the application and click on its icon on the icon bar with Adjust to open the UHF Television Guide or Select to open the FM Radio Guide. You can then click Select to choose between searching for UHF Television transmitter's, UHF Television channel's, FM Radio station name's or FM Radio station frequencies.

Click Menu anywhere in the main window to show the UHFGuide menu. This allows you to save the list of matched entries as a text file for printing or exporting to a DTP package or word processor. The Clear entry removes all items in the list.

Type in the text that you want to be found in the writable icon and click on Search or press Return. A list is displayed of any matched entries that were found.

If you try to find a string which doesn't contain a wildcard such as *, #, @, ! and ? then UHFGuide will come up with a list which contains the specific item which you searched for. If you do use one of the wildcards then the search will compare the string against the substring.

Note that the search performed is case insensitive. So, if you try to find HEMEL*, UHFGuide will come up with a list including Hemel Hempstead and Hemel Hempstead Town, because Hemel is inside both entries. It would also match hemel*, Hemel*, etc.

Altering the listings
Feel free to edit the data list that UHFGuide uses, although please send any major updates to RISC User. To access the data list, hold down Shift and double-click on the UHFGuide icon. You will find two text files called 1 and 2 which can be loaded into any text editor for editing.
