PlaySMF - MIDI File Player

by George Saliaris

PlaySMF is a player for standard MIDI files, and supports MIDI formats 0 and 1. In order to use it, you will require a MIDI synthesizer such as an Eagle M2 card and MIDI keyboard.

The Standard MIDI File (SMF) is the music industry's standard for exchanging MIDI data (music, instrument patches, samples, etc.). MIDI files contain one or more MIDI streams, with time information for each event. Song, sequence, and track structures, tempo and time signature information, are all supported. Track names and other descriptive information (e.g. lyrics) may be stored with the MIDI data.

As PlaySMF is compressed on the disc, click on its icon in the RISC User menu system or double-click on its icon in the Filer window. A Filer window will open containing the application itself. Double-click on the icon in this window to run PlaySMF. You can then double-click on a MIDI file or drag it to the PlaySMF icon on the icon bar to play it.

PlaySMF was developed in C and Assembler using Acorn C/C++ v5.06 and Oregan Developments' BasicAOF v1.20.
