PCD - PhotoCD Converter

by James Maietta

PCD is a conversion utility for users who do not have a PhotoCD-compatible version of ChangeFSI or any other graphics application which can read PhotoCD images. It works by converting PhotoCD images into a format which can be read by all versions of ChangeFSI; specifically the Portable Bitmap or PBM format.

PCD is very easy to use. You don't need to know the image's filename or even where the image is stored on the PhotoCD. Whenever you have your photographs transferred to a PhotoCD, the PhotoCD will be returned to you with a 'thumbnail' sheet showing the images on the PhotoCD. The images on the thumbnail sheet are numbered from 01 to 09 and then from 10 upwards. It is these numbers which PCD uses for converting the images.

To use PCD, double-click on its icon. The PhotoCD Converter window will open and you should then enter the number of the image you want converted, the image size, and a destination filename. Note that for images 1 to 9, you must enter the number prefixed with a zero, e.g. 01, 02, etc. Click on OK once you have entered the details. The image will be converted and PCD will automatically quit.

The converted image will appear in the destination directory with a Text filetype icon. Drag it to ChangeFSI to convert it into a Sprite.
