PasSeul - Patience game

by Alan Stout

PasSeul is a program which will let you play the game of PasSeul patience.
Pas Seul is a simple patience game which "comes out" more often than the
standard game but still requires some skill. An experienced player should
be able to achieve something like a 20% success rate with this game,
although luck will still be against completion on some occasions.

The program can be run in the usual way from the RISC User menu system or by double-clicking on its icon in a Filer window. Note that the application is archived so if you wish to transfer it elsewhere you must drag the application from the archive. Its size probably means that it needs a 2Mb system to run.

The rules of Pas Seul
The rules are similar to the standard game of Patience.

The object is to build up the suits in ascending sequence using the Aces
as foundations. There are 6 depots on which cards are played in descending
sequence in alternating red and black suits.

The remaining cards from the pack are played singly onto a heap, once
through only. Empty depots can be filled by any value exposed card from
any other depot or the heap.

How to play
Play the cards by the normal Select and drag method of the RISC OS desktop.
If you click Adjust on an exposed card the program will attempt to
place it on the correct target foundation automatically (clicking Adjust
on an exposed Ace will relocate it on the first available empty foundation
space).

Towards the end of the game, if PasSeul detects that it can be completed
successfully, it will take over automatically and complete the game for you.

You are permitted to undo your last move when you consider a better
alternative is available, but you cannot retrace your steps any further
than that.

If you complete a game, click Select on the card table to receive a prize.

Menu options

Deal again
Selecting this menu option will cause a new hand to be dealt, abandoning
the current game.

Select card
Displays a variety of card backs for you to choose from. Click Select over the design of your choice.

Slide cards
When selected and you click Adjust on an exposed card which can fit on one
of the target foundations, PasSeul will slide the card across the screen to
its new position. On some of the older, slower systems, the effect of this
may not be desirable and it can therefore be deselected if you wish.

Save choices
This will save the selected card back as the program default.

The other menu options have the usual RISC OS function.
