MIDI Demo Files - Two popular Greek songs

by George Saliaris

To coincide with the review of the ESP Software MIDI Synthesiser in this month's RISC User magazine, we are supplying two MIDI files of popular Greek songs to enable you to test a MIDI setup. These files can be played via the ESP software, or indeed via any other combination of software and hardware that supports MIDI files.

Running the item from the RISC User menu system opens a directory containing two files: August and Vardaris. Provided you have a suitable application installed, these files can be run by double-clicking on them.

There are a number of applications on the market which will play MIDI files, such as Sibelius, Rhapsody and Serenade. However, until now it has not been possible to play MIDI files without having a MIDI instrument fitted to the computer in order to hear the sound, or a hardware synthesiser card such as the PowerWAVE from Audio Dynamics.

The ESP software solution allows you to play MIDI files without a MIDI instrument, since the MIDI sounds are synthesised in software.
