PC Keys - Converts Acorn keyboard to PC

by Colin McEwan

This program is for RISC OS 3.1 or later

There is a comparatively small but annoying difference between the keyboards
on Acorn computers and those on other systems (IBM PC, Unix, etc.), which is
that the Delete and End keys perform different functions.

PC Keys rectifies this problem by making desktop applications on the Acorn
use the same keys as used on other computers.

Using PC Keys
Running the item from the RISC User menu system opens a directory viewer containing the PCKeys module. You can install this directly by double-clicking on its icon, or you can transfer it to a permanent location on your hard disc. Once the module is installed, the following alterations to the keyboard functions are implemented in order to emulate a conventional PC keyboard:

Delete now deletes to the right of the cursor instead of the left
End (Copy) moves the cursor to the end of the line
Backspace deletes the character to the left of the cursor

To install PC Keys permanently on your computer, simply drag the PCKeys file
into the PreDesk or Tasks directory of your Risc PC or A7000, or type
its pathname into your !Boot file in the usual way.

If you want to revert to the normal Acorn keyboard operation at any time, just press F12 to get to the command line, and enter:
RMKill PCKeys
