Merlin Pictures - Two sample pictures from the Merlin ray-tracer

Merlin is a powerful ray-tracing application produced by Evolution Computer and reviewed in this month's RISC User magazine. In order to give you an idea of the results that can be obtained from Merlin, we are supplying in JPEG format two files which have been produced with Merlin. Ballring is supplied by Evolution Computer and consists of two interlocking circular frames filled with coloured balls, while Shuttle shows a 3D representation of a space shuttle. Please note that in order to fit this item onto the disc, the Shuttle picture has been stored at a JPEG quality setting of 75% which has resulted in a slight degradation of the image, in particular some graininess in the background. This is a result of JPEG compression and is not caused by Merlin itself.

Running the item from the RISC User menu system opens a directory viewer containing files named Ballring and Shuttle. As mentioned above, these are both JPEG files and can be viewed using the JPEG Decode application supplied elsewhere on this disc. Alternatively, if you have RISC OS 3.6 you can view JPEGs directly by double-clicking on the files, or if you have a recent version of ChangeFSI this will also convert and display JPEGs.
