RISC User Volume 8 Special Disc 2

Program Information

Please read these instructions before attempting to run any of the programs on the disc.

All the applications on this disc require at least RISC OS 3.1, and in some cases RISC OS 3.5. Disc 1 of the Volume 8 Special Disc set contains programs which may also be run on RISC OS 2.

How to Use this Application
This menu application can be used to control the programs on this disc. The main window (the Master Menu) displays a list and brief description of all the applications. To the left of each item is the application icon, which will in most cases run the application when clicked (but see the section Archives below). To the right of each item is a help icon. Clicking on this will display an information page about that application. At the top of the page is a copy of the application icon, which performs the same function as the application icon on the Master Menu.

At the top of the window is the tool bar. The first icon in the tool bar takes you to the Master Menu. The Left and Right arrow icons take you backwards and forwards through the menu, giving information about each entry in turn. The Up icon takes you to the top of the current text.

The F icon toggles between the use of outline fonts and the system font for all pages apart from the Master Menu itself. If you are using a low resolution monitor you may find the system font easier to read. If you do not have RISC OS 3 this option will be greyed out, and all help pages will be displayed in the system font.

Archives
Most of the applications on this disc have been archived in order to make the maximum use of space on the disc. A copy of the read-only version of ArcFS is included inside the !!RiscUser application directory, which will have been seen automatically by the Filer when this menu program was run, and will itself be run automatically if required.

It is preferable to dearchive applications and move them to an appropriate place on your hard disc before running them, However, many of the programs can be run directly from the archive if required. Clicking on the application icon will therefore open the archive ready for you to drag the application to your hard disc, and also where appropriate will run the application.

Help Files
Again to save space, the top-level help files which are displayed by this menu application contain only brief details about the program. More detailed help files are included within each application, and these can be read by clicking Menu over the application's icon in a directory viewer and choosing the Help option from the File or App submenu. The help files can be loaded into a text editor and printed out, or alternatively you can load them into a DTP package to be formatted to your own taste before printing.

Viruses
This disc has been checked using Pineapple Software's Killer, and is believed to be free from all viruses known to Killer version 1.800.

Copying this Disc
The entire disc may be copied to another disc, a hard disc or a network by simply dragging all of the applications (including this one) to the relevant directory viewer. But such copying must be for the sole use of the purchaser.

Application directories can be entered by holding down Shift while clicking on a program icon.

Removing Control Codes
If you wish to remove the control codes from any of the Help files used with this menu system, simply drag them to the Master Menu icon on the icon bar, and make use of the Save box which appears. This will be useful if you are making a stand-alone copy of any of the items on the disc. But remember that if you overwrite the original Help file, the outline font codes used by the Master Menu will be lost next time you run it.
