Match - File Finder

by Graeme Davidson

Match searches through files in a given directory for a particular string. Match comes in useful on one of those occasions when you ask yourself "Where have I put that file? I know, I'll use the Find option in the filer menu, but ooh, what was the file called? Haven't a clue! If only I could search for something inside the file I might just be able to find it!"

Clicking on the application icon in the RISC User master menu will load the application onto the icon bar in the usual way and then clicking on the icon on the icon bar will open the main window.

Source path
The source path can be specified by dragging a directory icon to the Match window or by typing in the pathname manually.

Search string
The search string must be typed in manually and can be up to 256 characters
long.
Case specific determines whether the program will search for a case specific
string.

Filetypes
It is possible to search through all filetypes or just those specified by the user. Up to ten filetypes can be specified. Filetypes are added to the list simply by dragging a file of that type to the window. Filetypes can then be selected or deselected using Select and Adjust in the same way as in a filer window. Clicking Menu over the filetypes window will open the filetypes menu:

Remove will remove the current selection from the list.

Select all will select all of the filetypes in the list.

Clear Selection will clear the current selection.

Clicking on Start will commence the search. The 'Checking file' icon will display the current file being checked. If a match is found the directory containing the matching file can be opened by clicking on 'OpenDir'. If at any time you wish to end the search you must click on 'Abort'.
