PowerCtrl - Hard Disc On/Off Switch

by Peter Hillmann

PowerCtrl is a Wimp application that powers your hard disc up or down. This application is very handy for people who own A4 machines, to save battery power. Clicking on the application from the RISC User menu system will load the program onto the icon bar.

When the icon says 'on' the hard disc is still spinning. Clicking on the icon stops the hard disc, and the 'on' icon changes to an 'off' icon. Clicking again will have the opposite effect.

This will work with many of the Acorn machines including the A4, but may not work with certain makes of hard drives. Do not use this frequently, only use it when the drive is not needed for longish periods.

If the hard disc is powered down, clicking on a file in the filer window will also power the hard disc up again.
