Stereo Animator - 3D autostereograms

by Jonathan Hunt

Autostereograms have become very popular of late, and RISC User has previously published programs to achieve the effect. The program presented here takes the process one stage further, and creates an animated autostereogram.

The program can be run from the RISC User menu system or by double-clicking on its icon in a directory viewer. When first run, it takes a minute or so to calculate its required parameters, which it does by redrawing the screen a number of times. This may take a little while with an ARM2, so don't worry if there doesn't seem to be any animation at first. Once this is done, the animation effect begins. You will see a screen full of dancing dots; if you sit at a comfortable distance from the screen and concentrate your focus on an imaginary point deep inside the screen, you should soon see an array of sixteen 3D balls moving round in a circle. You should also see a legend above and below the circulating balls.

If you are unfamiliar with autostereograms it may take a little while before you can see the effect. The trick is to relax, don't try too hard, and concentrate on that imaginary point at the back of the screen.
