Interest - Calculates simple and compound interest

by Gillian Bobbett

Interest is a handy little program that calculates both simple and compound interest on a given sum at a specified rate of interest. The time
period may be entered as days, months or years. Compound interest is calculated on a daily basis.

The program can be run from the RISC User menu system or by double-clicking on its icon in a directory viewer. An icon is installed on the icon bar. Clicking Select over this icon opens the main window.

At the top right of the window are three writable icons, labelled Capital, Interest rate per annum and (initially) Number of days. Into these icons you should enter the appropriate data for the interest to be calculated. If you want to calculate over a period of months or years rather than days, click Menu over the window and choose the required time period from the menu. The display in the window will change to Number of months or Number of years as appropriate.

When all the data has been entered, clicking on the Calculate icon, or pressing Return in the last writable icon, will calculate both simple and compound interest, and display the results in the lower part of the window. If the resulting sum is too large for Basic to handle, an error will be generated. Clicking on OK in the error box will clear the data and allow you to continue, which clicking on Cancel will terminate the program.

Clicking Menu over the icon bar icon opens a menu with three options: Info, Clear and Quit. The Info and Quit options perform their usual functions, while Clear clears all the current data from the program's window.
