DirPrint - Directory contents printer

by Nathan Micholey

This handy utility provides a simple and effective way to print out the contents of a directory graphically in exactly the same way that directories are shown in the Filer's directory displays.

The program is loaded in the normal way by double-clicking on its icon in a directory display, or by clicking on the icon in the RISC User Menu Program. An icon is installed on the icon bar.

Clicking on the icon bar icon (or choosing the Choices option from the icon bar menu) opens the Directory printer choices window. This allows you to control the way printouts are done. The choices may also be saved for the next time DirPrint is run. The Output format and the Sort type can be configured in exactly the same way that the screen display for directory displays is set up. In addition, there is an Automatic setting for both Output format and Sort type. These use the display settings that are currently in force for the directory display that is being printed.

To print a directory display, simply drag any object from within the directory to be printed to the DirPrint icon bar icon. This will open a printer window with the name of the currently selected printer driver in the title bar. If there is no printer driver present an error message is displayed instead. Assuming that a printer driver was found, the number of copies to be printed can be set. Click on Print to print those copies. If Adjust is used to do this, the window will remain open, allowing more copies to be printed subsequently. Pressing Cancel or clicking outside the window will close the window.

Note that the operation is not recursive - i.e. only the contents of the chosen directory will be printed, and not the contents of any sub-directories within that directory.
