Super Puzzle - Desktop puzzle game

by William Doggett

Included on the Acorn Application Discs is a simple 4x4 sliding block puzzle game. We thought it would be nice to offer an improved version, so here is an attractive 3D 5x5 puzzle which should give you hours of fun.

The application can be run from the RISC User menu system, or by double-clicking on its icon in a directory viewer. An icon is installed on the icon bar. Clicking Select on the icon bar icon opens the puzzle window, with tiles labelled 1-24 displayed in random fashion around the 5x5 matrix. There is one blank square. The object of the game is to arrange the numbers in the correct order from left to right, top to bottom (i.e. the top row should contain 1,2,3,4,5 from left to right, and so on). Tiles are moved by clicking on any tile adjacent to the blank square, whereupon that tile will be moved into the blank space.

Clicking Menu over the icon bar icon opens a meny with three options: Info, New game and Quit. The first and last of these perform their usual functions. Choosing New game will, after a very brief delay, re-order the tiles in a random fashion ready to start a new game.
