Humanoids - An action-packed game

Humanoids is a new version of the classic arcade game, Defender. BBC micro owners may also remember it as Planetoid. Gary Lee, the author of Planetoid, has produced this new version, which is faithful to the original but plays more smoothly. The object of the game, as with all shoot-em-ups, is quite simple - you must pilot your craft across the face of the planet, blasting aliens to pieces and preventing them from kidnapping the humanoids working on the surface.

At the top of the screen is a small window which shows you the whole of the planet's surface in microcosm, while the main area of the screen shows the immediate surroundings of your craft. When you hear a 'clink' sound, it indicates that somewhere an alien has kidnapped a humanoid. The alien will slowly drag its prize to the top of the screen, and you must destroy it before it reaches its goal, and catch the humanoid before it crashes to the surface.

The default keys to use for the game are as follows:

    Start Game		- Return
    Quit to Desktop	- Ctrl Escape
    Up     			- A
    Down			- Z
    Thrust			- Keypad .
    Fire			- Keypad Enter
    Reverse			- Space Bar
    Smart Bomb		- Tab
    Hyperspace		- Keypad 0
    Pause			- P
    Unpause			- U
    Quit			- Escape

    Redefine Keys		- R

You start with 3 lives and 3 smart bombs and get extras every 10,000 points. You also get a fresh planet to defend with 10 humanoids every 5 waves.

If you are running this program from a floppy disc, and wish the all-time high scores to be saved back to disc, leave it write enabled.

All the sound effects were created using Sound FX Maker from Cambridge International Software Limited.
