New Format Acorn Sprite

by Tim Dobson

This is a photograph of an island in Loch Awe, Scotland. It was taken by
Tim Dobson in May 1993 and uses the new 16-bit RISC OS sprite format, the image
is 90 by 60 pixels in size. It is included here for the interest of readers
of the article on the new Acorn sprite formats. The header can be examined and
the sprite can be used to test the behaviour of programs when new format sprites
are loaded in to them. Impression Style, for example, will load and display it correctly.

Because it is a new format sprite, it cannot be viewed in current versions of
the RISC OS Paint application.

Double-click on the !NewSprite application, or single clink on the icon in the menu program, to open a directory display
containing the sprite. You can load it into the system sprite pool by using the
Task Manager to make sure that there is at least 16K in the System
Sprites area, then pressing F12 and typing:

	SLoadNewSprite

You will now be able to use the XSInfo module in the !SprInfo
application on this month's disc to read information from the sprite.

DeskEdit users can also drag the file to the DeskEdit icon bar
icon, while holding down Alt and Shift, to see extended information on the
sprite.
