Beat the VAT man

by Donald McRae

Many small businesses face the regular chore of compiling their VAT returns. The purpose of this simple program is to provide an easy way of doing this in the style required by the authorities. The program is not multi-tasking - it hardly needs to be - but is already in use regularly by several small businessmen in the author's home town. Indeed, the program is simplicity itself, but that also means it is easily modified for all manner of similar form filing purposes. The headings are easily identifiable in the program and may be changed as required.

For full information on how to modify the program to print your own VAT returns, you should read the article in this month's magazine.

USING VATMAN
When you double-click on VatMan, the screen will clear and you will be prompted to enter a page number that will be printed at the foot of that page. This is necessary because if your VAT returns occupy more than one page, you will need to enter the data for each page separately. Then simply select whether you want to print the information, or just display it on screen, and you will immediately be presented with all the information laid out in the correct style, all ready for the VAT man (person). You can use the Shift key to scroll through the data on screen.
