Circuit Symbols Clip Art (Part 2)
by Richard Lancaster

Running this application opens a directory viewer containing four directories. These form the second and final part of circuit diagram clip art (the first was published on the RISC User 6:2 disc). The following instructions apply to the complete set.

The circuit symbols in this collection are designed to create illustrations of circuit diagrams in Draw file format, for use in DTP, presentations etc.

Before an illustration can be created Draw must be suitably configured. This can be achieved by the doing the following:

Firstly load up Draw. Then click on its icon with Select to open up an empty Draw window. Then set the required page size. Next turn the grid lock on and set it to 'Cm' with a subdivisions setting on 6. Note that this is absolutely imperative as otherwise the components will become distorted and the wires will not mesh correctly.

Please also note that a fonts directory containing the Trinity.Medium font must have been seen to use the symbols correctly.

Now Draw is ready to be used for a diagram. The four windows in the complete clip art collection each represent a type of component and opening one will reveal further subdivisions of each category. By continuing down these subdivisions you will eventually arrive at the set of components you have chosen. These can be used in your work simply by dragging their respective Draw file onto your diagram in the required position. From here they can be moved and aligned exactly to the required position using the select tool.

Wires can be drawn using the line tool set to the width 'thin' and coloured 'black'. They can then be subsequently adjusted by clicking on the line with Adjust while on the line tool. This then puts you in Edit mode and the wires can then be moved by dragging the blue action points with Adjust held down.

The finished diagram can then be printed or exported to other packages as required.

Please note, that if possible, it is advisable to be in a multisync or VGA mode (eg. 18-21,25-28) to allow the best possible resolution.

The notation used in the filenames is as follows:

H - Horizontal
V - Vertical
D - Down
U - Up
L - Left
R - Right

This notation describes the file's orientation, e.g. 'Thermist_H' translates to 'Thermistor, Horizontal'.

The two files Dusk and P_Supply in the directory Examples contain examples of the clip art in use.
