System Font Extensions
by Kevin Bracey

Running this application opens up a directory viewer containing a Basic program FontExtnd and a BBC Font file called Latin1Defs.

If the Basic program is run, then characters 135 to 159 of the system font will be redefined so that they reflect the ligatures available in most outline fonts. This enables text editors such as Edit to display their text with the same characters as found in outline fonts.

The file Latin1Defs can be produced by removing the REM statements from lines 90, 370 and 380 in the program. This is a standard BBC Font file and will redefine just those characters from 135 to 159.

For more details of the characters that have been redefined, see the article in this month's magazine.
