Outline Font Displayer
by Mark Moxon

This application allows outline fonts on your system to be printed out for reference. This enables the large number of outline fonts available to be managed more easily.

Running the application installs an icon on the icon bar, after a short pause. Clicking on this icon brings up a window.

In the first section of the window are two radio icons. If 'All fonts' is selected it means that every font on your system will be displayed at the point size in the 'Max' icon. If 'Single font' is selected, then one font will be printed over a range of sizes. The range of sizes printed is entered into the 'Max', 'Min' and 'Step' icons so that the sizes printed range from 'Min' to 'Max' in steps of 'Step' - for example, if 'Max' is 24, 'Min' is 12 and 'Step' is 3, then the sizes printed will be 12pt, 15pt, 18pt, 21pt and 24pt. If the value of 'Step' is incompatible with the values in 'Max' and 'Min', an error will be generated. To print a font at one size only, simply make 'Max' and 'Min' the same value (in which case the value of 'Step' does not matter). Clicking Menu over the window brings up a menu of all the fonts available on your system, and choosing one of them will insert the font name into the long text icon; this is the font that will be printed over the specified range.

The second section of the window contains three radio icons. Each different font/size has the name and size of that font printed (in that font and size), along with some text, which is decided by these icons. Selecting 'Text' means the text will be "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"; selecting 'Alphabet' prints the alphabet in upper and lower case; and selecting 'All chars' will print the whole character set in that font.

Clicking on the Cancel icon removes the window and resets the icons to their default values (i.e. the ones shown when you first bring the window up).

Clicking on OK opens up a window displaying the required font(s) in the chosen size(s). If there are a number of fonts being displayed the window may take a long time to be drawn, but pressing Escape will abort the draw and remove the window. If you configure a large font cache via the Task Manager, then once the fonts are cached the window redraw speed will be greatly increased.

Clicking Menu over this window will bring up a menu containing one entry, Print, and choosing this entry will (if you have a printer driver loaded) print out the fonts. This may take a considerable time, and pressing Escape will abort the print.

To exit the application, click Menu over the icon bar icon and choose Quit.
