Desktop Character Rulers Application
by Mark Moxon

Counting characters on the screen can be a real headache. This application can help by displaying two movable rulers on the Desktop, with graduations in system font characters. There is a red bar every 10 characters, and a large black bar every 5, so counting characters vertically or horizontally is now a trivial matter.

This application allows two rulers to be displayed on the Desktop. The graduations on the rulers are in system font characters, with a red bar every 10 characters. The rulers can be used to measure the length of any sequence of characters in the system font.

Running the application puts an icon on the icon bar. Clicking Select on this icon brings up both rulers. Clicking Menu over this icon brings up a menu with three entries.

The Horizontal and Vertical options are tickable, i.e. choosing them toggles a tick in the menu. If the Horizontal option is ticked then the horizontal ruler is displayed, and if the Vertical option is ticked then the vertical ruler is displayed.

The rulers can be moved around the Desktop just like any window - simply click and hold Select on the ruler and move the mouse. Clicking Adjust on a ruler toggles the size of the ruler between the size of the screen and about 2/3 of the size of the screen.

Choose the Quit option to quit the application.
