Anti-theft Application for Hard Discs
by Kell Gatherer

This program, when installed in the root directory of a hard disc, will generate an uncloseable window which requires the input of a password.

To install the program, open the !Security directory on the floppy (hold down Shift and double-click on the application icon) and double-click on the Basic program 'Install'. This copies all the relevant files into the $ directory of the hard disc (excluding Install and !Help), and renames the BOOT file as !Boot.

Now, when the computer is switched on, and the hard disc accessed (as would be normal when a prospective buyer tries out the machine), an uncloseable window containing details of the true owner will appear. In fact, someone with a working knowledge of the Archimedes would be able to delete this file with comparative ease. However, it is a fact that most thieves don't have any specialist knowledge!

To bypass the security program, there are two methods:
1) Enter the password and press Return. The program on the disc has the password "5555".
2) Pull up the secret window:
There is a "secret" window outside the bounds of the screen that can be pulled into view as follows: take the mouse pointer to the bottom left corner of the screen, click and hold Select and drag the window into view. Clicking on "OFF" will kill the application and open the usual root directory filer window.

Clicking the menu button over the secret window will allow the altering of the text and password: click over the second menu item to save. Passwords may contain any character and be up to twelve characters long.
