This chapter describes the rules about copying the Risc-OS Forthmacs
Working Disk and presents some general information.

A Note From the Author
======================

Hi,

My name is Hanno Schwalm. I have ported Mitch Bradleys "Forthmacs
3.0" to ARM based RiscOS computers and I do all support on this
implementation.

This file describes our policy about making and giving away copies of
Risc-OS Forthmacs. In general, you are free to give away copies of
the ORIGINAL WORKDISC archive subject to a few restrictions.

Other Forthmacs-platforms include Apple-Macintosh, Atari, Sun-68k,
OS-9 and SPARC computers. Your Risc-OS Forthmacs is as portable to
those implementations as possible.

Copyright
=========

Risc-OS Forthmacs is copyrighted. This means that we retain the
ownership of Risc-OS Forthmacs. However, we hereby give you
permission to use, make and give away copies of the Risc-OS Forthmacs
archive directory WORKDISC

Your 40 Contribution
=====================

If you send me 40 (100 DM, 70 $) you'll be a registered
Risc-OS Forthmacs user, and I will say "Thank You" with:

- An up-to-date copy of the Risc-OS Forthmacs Working Disk

- A printed ~200 page Risc-OS Forthmacs manual

- my permanent work on Risc-OS Forthmacs

As a registered user, you can:

- get new updates at any time

- purchase the Risc-OS Forthmacs source code complete with the
metacompiler.

- find out about new products.

- receive support as described below.

- get more tools

Future versions
===============

This Risc-OS Forthmacs currently follows the Forth-83 standard in many
ways, it's code has been written with portability to other platforms
and former versions in mind. It runs almost any software that has
been written for 'Forthmacs' before or needs very little re-coding.

But as time goes by, Risc-OS Forthmacs isn't really state of the art
any more. There will be updates available quite frequently as I
permanently work on Risc-OS Forthmacs. Things still to be done:

- ANS standard Forth bindings.

- integration in the WIMP environment supporting DDE, throwback and
inter-task communication.

Site licence
============

A site licence for up to 30 computers in one room is also available
for 100 plus 20 per installation.

Support
=======

All registered users ( those who paid for this program ) will be
supported (preferably) via E-mail. Just send a mail to

     support@4thware.winnet.de
==============================

Always tell your computer configuration, RiscOS Version and
Risc-OS Forthmacs Version.

More support is available via the Risc-OS Forthmacs mail-server at
4thware now open to the public. It is using a uucp based
Risc-OS Forthmacs server software.

REQUEST@4THWARE.WINNET.DE

These are the commands available:

HELP in the Subject: will send you a detailed help information.

OPEN starts commands

REPLY-TO: yourname@yoursite tells the mailserver your address. Some
mailers have this command in the header, some don't. You can also use
the command to redirect output.

CD NAME change the directory path to "name", only paths within the
users 'root-tree' are accepted, illegal paths result in cd 'user-root'

LS gives a directory listing as in Risc-OS Forthmacs ls.

GET NAME the file "name" will be send to you if public access is
allowed.  NO *? ...  allowed

QUIT end of commands

request example
===============

The user xyz wants a working disk update plus a filelist of available
files. This mail to REQUEST@4THWARE.WINNET.DE would do that:

           open
           ls
           cd public
           ls
           get workdisc
           end

If you don't have email available, you may also use the above post
address.

Bugs
====

Risc-OS Forthmacs is a very solid software. I don't know of any bugs,
but I would be pretty surprised if a few aren't hiding in there
somewhere. If you find one, send me a letter or mail (presumably
after you have sent in your 40) and I will probably fix it. Keep in
mind, though, that there is sometimes a fine line between a "bug" and
a "feature". Also, in some cases the effort required to fix something
is way out of line with the benefits; in those cases it's often better
to find a workaround. So, no guarantees, but I will do my best to
make Risc-OS Forthmacs as bug-free as is practical.

Licensing
=========

Suppose that you develop software that runs under Risc-OS Forthmacs
and wish to distribute your software along with Risc-OS Forthmacs. If
you give away your software, you may also give away a copy of
Risc-OS Forthmacs with it, so long as you give away the entire
"Forthmacs Working Disk", with nothing removed. You are free to put
it on bulletin boards if you wish, again with the stipulation that you
put the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk" there.

If you plan to sell your software, please get in touch with me so we
can work out a licensing agreement. Risc-OS Forthmacs may not be sold
as part of any system without a licensing agreement. I will be
willing to work out an agreement that is fair to both of us.

Sources
=======

The complete Risc-OS Forthmacs 3.0 sources plus the Metacompiler are
available for 40 (100DM or 70$).

NOTE: Feel free to write your software using these sources but NEVER
give away these sources with your software. Also think about
Licensing.

Copying Fees
============

If you normally charge a fee for making someone a copy of a disk, you
may charge the same fee for making a copy of the Risc-OS Forthmacs
Working Disc, WORKDISC . The fee must be based solely on the cost of
making the copy, and must be the same fee that you charge for a copy
of any other disk.

Liability
=========

Bradley Forthware and Hanno Schwalm shall have no liability or
responsibility to any person or entity with respect to any loss or
damage caused or alleged to be caused directly or indirectly by
Risc-OS Forthmacs. This includes, but is not limited to, any
interruption of service, loss of business, loss of information or that
which is rendered inaccurate, or loss of anticipated profits or any
other consequential or incidental damages resulting from the use of
Risc-OS Forthmacs, even if Bradley Forthware or Hanno Schwalm has been
advised of the possibility of such damages.
