Use of !Patch.
--------------
This program applies and removes patches from applications. If you are using
floppy disks, you are strongly recommended to copy !Patch and !Scrap to
an empty disk, double-click on this new !Scrap, and then run !Patch from
the new disk. This will significantly reduce the number of disk swaps
you will have to make.

To test whether an application needs patching drop the application (or
directory containing it or indeed the entire contents of $) onto the !Patch
icon on the icon bar. A window will open indicating the known patches for
the program, and whether they can be applied. If a patch has already been
applied there will be the option to remove it. You should always take a
backup of an application before patching it. Press the menu button on the
mouse while the pointer is over the !Patch window to get the menu of patch
options.

!Patch already knows how to patch Acorn Desktop Publisher (!DTP) such
that !DTP is able to import Risc OS 3.00 draw files, and it knows how
to patch !Internet in the TCP/IP protocol suite such that accessing NFS
works in a task window.

If there is plenty of free space on the floppy disk containing the
application you are going to patch (eg. at least 450K if you are patching
!DTP) then running a !Scrap there will reduce the number of disk swaps
even more. It is likely however that there will not be enough free disk
space for you to be able to do this.

If the patch files you need are supplied seperately to !Patch, double click
on them or the application directory which supplies them.
