Hi folks...

Acorn Developer News 15/06/98

Ursula SoundControl Specification
---------------------------------
The functional spec for this module is now available as
http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/SALES/DEVELOPERS/resource/docs/api/ursula/soundctrl.txt
; in brief, the module controls mixing and sampling in the Phoebe sound
system and claiming of the hardware to do it, and provides device information
to claiming processes. It isn't a MIDI spec, but it should be noted that
software which intends to use the MIDI interface will need to claim it using
the API detailed here.

New CMHG
--------
We've found an exotic bug in CMHG 5.18, as was available before now on the
developer site as updates/ucmhgbeta.arc . The bug only manifests itself if
you are using event handler veneers to catch "output buffer empty" events
(event code 0); the veneer which is generated by CMHG 5.18 masks out event 0.
Whoops.

The upshot of this is CMHG 5.19, which you can find as
http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/SALES/DEVELOPERS/resource/updates/ucmhg519.arc ;
please use this version for all future builds.

New Toolbox Help
----------------
An updated copy of Neil Bingham's StrongHelp-based Toolbox help system can be
found as
http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/SALES/DEVELOPERS/resource/devtools/toolboxhelp.arc

Acorn World Developer Village
-----------------------------
Jonathan Cooke tells me he's received quite a few (about 20) requests for
more information about the Developer Village at Acorn World; he intends to
get back to everyone with more details as soon as he can. Factors such as
default stand size, etc, will be influenced by the number of developers who
choose to exhibit in this area, and as such are unlikely to be finalised for
a while yet.

A Request from Sibelius
-----------------------
Jonathan Finn was in touch the other day, and one of the things he mentioned
was that Sibelius are looking to recruit an additional software engineer.

If any of you guys know anyone who might be interested in this position,
please pass the job requirements and contact details on to them...
