Date: Tue, 28 OCT 1997 17:00:45 +0000 (GMT) From: Dave Walker Subject: Acorn Developer News 28/10/97: Beta patch disc image withdrawn, NetStation Servers, etc etc To: isvquery@acorn.com Hi folks... Acorn Developer News 28/10/97 Beta Patch Disc Image Withdrawn ------------------------------- A small legal matter has arisen regarding the contents of the updates/betapatches.arc archive on the Developer WWW site; at this moment in time, it transpires that it contains a quantity of code which we do not actually have the rights to distribute. While this situation awaits progress, it would be appreciated if any developers who have downloaded this archive would destroy all copies of it and its contents which reside within their organisations. I will inform you via further missives of any change in the status quo. NetStation Servers - Not Just UNIX ---------------------------------- Some hacking involving an experimental duplicate of our stock control system and an IBM NC indicates that it should be possible to reliably boot and serve Acorn NetStations from an IBM AS/400 running OS/400. I intend to investigate this further post Acorn World (it should involve little more than appropriate bootpd, nfsd and pcnfsd ports)... news as it happens. Developer Support Shutting Down for Acorn World ----------------------------------------------- As a very large quantity of Acorn World-oriented work still needs to be done (not least of which is actual kit setup at Wembley), Developer Support activities will cease as of now and resume on Monday 03/11/97 (the day after Acorn World). I shall be at the show for all three days of public opening, and all day on the Thursday before the show (this is the day after tomorrow - erk!) for network setup. For your interest, tomorrow I have a network (effectively a full-scale dry-run of the show) to lash together and soak test, so I'm not going to be twiddling my thumbs! :-) Desperately Seeking Games ------------------------- We intend to have a number of machines at Acorn World (particularly in the Clan area) dedicated to playing games; this presents a useful opportunity for games developers to showcase their output on what is, effectively, an Acorn stand. If you are showing or releasing any games, new or otherwise, at Acorn World I'd appreciate it if a copy of these games were to make their way to Jon Cashen. As it's now probably too late to send the games to us by post, the best thing to do will be find him at Acorn World on Thursday; both Jon and I will be there from early in the day, and Jon can be reached on Thursday via his mobile on 0802 536242. Acorn World - Existing Stand Space Sold --------------------------------------- The organisers inform me that all existing stand space at Acorn World has been sold. We also apparently have a record number of advance ticket sales. If you wish at this eleventh hour to book stand space, you should contact Jonathan Cooke on 0585 958768; a quantity of additional stand space can be generated on the fly as needs require.
