Acorn Developer News 18/09/97 Out with a Bang - "NC OS 1.06 PRM" ---------------------------------- A quick reminder for those who may not have read the previous missive; I'm on holiday as of close of business today, and back on October 3rd. In my absence, Developer Support will be housekept by Dealer Support, backed up by Licensee Support for the deep-diving stuff. Meantime, there's a new set of resource materials available; today I received clearance to sanitise and upload copies of as much Functional Specification material for the NC as is currently shipping (ie running NC OS 1.06) as I could lay my hands on from our specification servers. As a result, I'm happy to announce that there's effectively a do-it-yourself NC OS 1.06 PRM available now in HTML form starting at http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/SALES/DEVELOPERS/resource/docs/api/nc/specs.html . Everything API-related is included. Comments and constructive criticism are welcome, but remember that I won't be able to read my email (or make any changes to what's up there) until October 3rd. Special Modem NC Pricing for Developers --------------------------------------- We're cutting prices for developers for modem NCs to UKP 250 + VAT as of today. Price for Ethernet NCs remains at the previous level as indicated on the price list. As usual, orders to be submitted on the form / cheque with order. Director 4 Player ----------------- Just to keep you posted, this player is now stable to the point where it has two known bugs and neither of these will crash the system. Bugs: 16-bit sound will not play correctly (the speaker produces garbage instead) Graphical objects containing transparency csn, when overlaid on eachother, result in spurious black rectangles being plotted to screen. Full Director 4 Lingo support is included, as is playing of "foreign" audio formats such as AIFF in 8 bit only. For those of you who are working on applications which are not expected to impact upon these, we're looking at arrangements which will enable you to licence the player as it stands. More on this shortly after I get back. Literature (er... what literature?) ---------- So far, we have received one pack of literature for distribution to our dealers on October 15th at their Acorn World briefing. More would be appreciated (hint, hint)...
